Q : WHEN DO YOU SHOOT YOUR SESSIONS?
A : I offer studio and on-location sessions Sundays through Thursdays. I shoot using all natural light so indoor sessions are held during the day when there is the best natural light inside. Outdoor sessions are held during the evenings about an hour before sunset when the light is prettiest.
Q : WHAT IS A FAMILY SESSION LIKE?
My family portraits are not traditional “sit together for long periods of time and say cheese” types of pictures. Instead, I prefer to capture your family interacting – living and loving each other as you do every day. I adore relaxed, non-traditional captures and firmly believe pictures reflecting the spirit of your family will be the most treasured. Many families enjoy choosing an activity for at least part of the session – things such as blowing bubbles in the backyard, flying a kite, washing the dog, having a pillow fight on mom and dad’s bed or visiting an ice cream shop. The possibilities are endless! The most frequent comment I hear after a family session is how fun and easy it was!
Q : WHAT IS A NEWBORN SESSION LIKE?
A : Newborn sessions are shot during the day when there is the most natural light indoors. The best time to capture your newborn is usually between 7-14 days, although I believe every baby stage is beautiful. Once you decide to book a newborn session, we will put your due date on our calendar. When your baby arrives, we ask that you contact us to schedule the specific session date. The session itself, like all my sessions, is very relaxed and stress-free. If your baby has already arrived and you are interested in a newborn session, contact the studio and I will try to fit you in!
Q : WHERE SHOULD WE DO OUR SESSION?
A : We will hold your session wherever you wish! Newborn sessions are often shot at the client’s home, although I also do many newborn sessions in the studio. I have several go-to locations in the Tulsa area that I love for family and children sessions, although I’m always excited to discover new places to shoot. I find that the best locations are those that hold special meaning to the client. That usually means that my favorite sessions are those held in the client’s own home – where everyone is comfortable, relaxed and surrounded by things that represent you and your life.
Once your session is booked, you can tell me about the kind of feel you want for your images or let me know which images speak most to you on my website. We can then determine the best location for your session.
Q : HOW YOU GET BEAUTIFUL IMAGES IN MY HOME IF I HAVEN’T FINISHED DECORATING MY LIVING ROOM?
…or our backyard isn’t impeccably landscaped…or I have laundry piles in the master bedroom…or dishes are stacked in my sink…my house isn’t like other clients’ magazine-worthy homes? You have just described the thought process of nearly every client. I will simply walk around your house when I arrive, find great patches of natural light, perhaps move the pile of toys out of the frame and capture images both indoors and out. Your portraits will be beautiful. Really!
Q : WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
A : Clothing is a very personal choice, however, I suggest classic simplicity. Family images look best if the family is in coordinating (although not matching!) attire. Small children may bring along blankies and loveys to their session, for those can make beautiful keepsake photos. Take a peek through my galleries to get clothing ideas. I will also send you a what to wear guide once you book your session which will give you more suggestions and tips for what photographs best.
Q : DO YOU TRAVEL FOR SESSIONS?
A : I love to travel for sessions and can provide a travel quote depending on the location!
Q : HOW CAN I ARRANGE FOR A PHOTO SESSION ON THE BEACH?
A : I travel to the Seaside, Florida, area each summer and offer mini sessions and signature sessions on the beach and in the surrounding beach communities. I send my summer beach dates out to my client list in the spring.
Q : WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DO SENIOR SESSIONS?
A : I shoot senior sessions in the summer before senior year through September. October through December are reserved for family clients since it is a busy time for holiday card sessions. Most schools have a December deadline for yearbook photos. If an image isn’t needed for the yearbook though, seniors may choose to do the session during the spring of their senior year. Please visit our Senior Session page for more information!
